Get ready to pop your shoulders and stomp your feet!
So much more than hair-ography, the traditional dances of Iraq are a broad subject which could fill a dissertation, coming from a country of many cultures and dialects. This workshop focuses Kawleeya (Hacha) Dance often called Iraqi dance.
The Kawleeya dances of the Southern Iraqi Nomads are traditional folkloric dances which survive in popularity in modern times. Learn to distinguish the rhythms and use authentic movements. Learn where these dances come from, the cultural context they are performed in and how the style is going mainstream. And yes, we will do some hair flinging…safely. Get ready to sweat and don’t forget your morning coffee!
Appropriate for all skill levels. A great skill for mixed bellydance / folkloric shows. Please bring water, a notebook and a towel. Kawleeya is great cardio too!
