Experience the mastery of Karim Nagi’s unparalleled teaching skills and proficiency in both music and dance and obtain a new physical understanding of the connection between these two disciplines at the highest level. His classes and performances boast a dynamic concoction of live drumming and dance done in unison.
A native Egyptian, Nagi is a drummer, DJ, composer and folk dancer. He is the creator of Turbo Tabla. He is well versed in the ultra-traditional styles of music, and has lead the Sharq Arabic Music Ensemble since 1999. He promotes and fosters the study of Arab dance in the USA as the director of the Arab Dance Seminar. Karim performs and teaches Tahteeb Cane Dance, Dabka
and Zikr Sufi Dance.
He taught at the New England Conservatory of Music for
5 years, and has lectured and presented at Harvard, MIT, Yale, Bowdoin, Princeton, Stanford, William & Mary, Georgetown, and several Community Colleges.
This special weekend for the deserning dancer (at least 18 years old) will be a closed workshop weekend of 4 workshops at a total cost of $200.00 (until 01/31 then $250) for the weekend with limited space. All participants have the opportunity to perform at the Karim Nagi Arab Hafla on Saturday night the 4th March 2017 in the Global Dance Theatre. The show will be open to the public.
