Baltimore Palestine Solidarity
Senator Cardin’s bill (S720), cosponsored by Representative Steny Hoyer in the House version, is an attempt to squelch dissent when we need #resistance most. If passed, the possible felony charges Palestine solidarity activists face could in the future be extended to other grassroots activists, who are using the powerful boycott, divestment, sanctions tactic to hit agents of injustice where it hurts, in the pocket book.
An injustice to one is an injustice to all. The intersection of the Palestinian struggle with other international and local movements demands we turn out and speak up!
From the Selma Bus Boycott for Black civil rights, to the Grape Boycott for immigrant, Asian, and Latinx workers’ rights, to the boycott of Apartheid South Africa, boycott has been a consistent tool used by social justice movements to achieve power. Palestinian solidarity is an extension of that tradition. We will not remain silent!
As the push back over Senator Cardin’s anti-BDS bill mounts, other legislators are rethinking their stance. In attempting to undermine our power, they’re realizing how powerful we really are! See you in the streets!
Our representative Steny Hoyer, the House Minority Whip and currnetly on a trip to Palestine/Israel, is a co-sponser of this national legislation. We must demonstrate strongly and quickly that his attempt to ban of free speech is not supported by the residents of his district.
We will meet outside Congressman Hoyer’s Greenbelt office at the U.S. District Court building (6500 Cherrywood Lane, Greenbelt, MD 20770).
