The Dream and Then the Nightmare is the first book in English that tells the story of the Arabic-speaking passengers who were on board the Titanic at the time of the disaster based on reports from the Arabic
newspapers of 1912 and interviews with deceased passengers' families as well as the survivors.

Illustrated with photographs and list of passengers.

Leila Salloum Elias is the granddaughter of Syrian immigrants to Canada. She was born in Toronto, Canada and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Middle East and Islamic Studies from the University of Toronto. She currently teaches at Penn State University and at Northampton Community College in Pennsylvania. She is also co-author of three upcoming books dealing with medieval Arab cuisine. She currently resides in the United States.
