Venezuela Recognizes Jerusalem as the Capital of Palestine as Trump Accelerates U.S. Embassy Move

Today, the President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro recognized Jerusalem as the eternal capital of the state of Palestine according to WAFA, the Palestinian News Agency.

Maduro reiterated Venezuela’s support of the Palestinian people regarding US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Palestinian Prime Minister, Rami al-Hamdallah was on a two-day official visit when the announcement was made.

At the same time, the Trump Administration is accelerating plans to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, planning the move to be completed as soon as next year (in 2019).

Previously, administration officials projected the move would take a minimum of three years or more.

According to the State Department, the plan is to convert the present consular building in Arnona, located in West Jerusalem.
