Poetry and Prose Series at SQCC
SQCC’s Poetry and Prose lecture series consists of four sessions per year from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. For each poetry and prose evening, a guest speaker/poet will recite a poem of her/his choice in Arabic and will also give a brief synopsis of each poem’s content in English before reciting it in Arabic or while reciting it. Printed English translations of the poems will be available for the audience.
Huda J. Fakhreddine is Assistant Professor of Arabic literature at the University of Pennsylvania. She is the author of Metapoesis in the Arabic Tradition: From Modernists to Muhdathūn (Brill, 2015). Her translations of modern Arabic poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Banipal, World Literature Today, Nimrod, ArabLit Quarterly and Middle Eastern Literatures. She is currently completing a book project titled, The Edge of Poetry: The Arabic Prose Poem as Theory and Practice.
