Our Sixth Annual Austin City Wide Iftar features elected officials and prominent names within the Muslim community to highlight the issues facing Texas and our community. We cordially invite you to join us.

Speakers: Fmr. Congressman Beto O’Rourke, Congressman Lloyd Doggett,  Austin Mayor Steve Adler, State Sen. Sarah Eckhardt, State Sen. Ghazala Hashmi, State Reps. Celia Israel and Jacey Jetton, Council Member Basheer Jones, Council Member Greg Casar and Sheikh Islam Mossaad.

Community Partners: CAIR Austin, Muslim Community Support Services (MCSS), Bangladesh Association of Greater Austin (BAGA), Interfaith Action of Central Texas (IACT), Islamic Center of Lake Travis (ICLT), Raindrop Foundation, Islamic Ahlul Bayt Association (IABA), Indian American Coalition of Texas (IACT), Dialogue Institute of Austin, Pakistani American Collaborative of Texas (PACT), Islamic Center of Brushy Creek (ICBC), North Austin Muslim Community Center (NAMCC), UT MSA, WiseUp Texas.

This event also marks the final 5 weeks of the 2021 legislative session in Texas. Emgage Action has been working tirelessly to engage the Texas Legislature on a set of issues that our community prioritizes. This includes Muslim-specific issues, advocating for a fair redistricting process, religious freedom and minority rights, combating voter suppression, and partnering with our allies to support criminal justice reform and center human rights.

Our Texas team has already testified in redistricting hearings and pushed forward bills directly impacting the Muslim community, such as adding Eid Al-Adha and Eid-Al Fitr as optional state holidays, recognizing Imams as religious leaders who can perform marriage ceremonies, and requiring health care facilities to remove all medical equipment from a deceased person prior to the body being transported for ghusl/Islamic ritual washing.

Our bills have strong bipartisan support and we are motivated to continue on the path of sustained engagement with policymakers in order to secure our rights and interests as a community. But we cannot do it without your support.

As we continue to fight for our legislative agenda, will you make a Ramadan donation right now to support our efforts to uplift the Muslim Community in Texas?
