Discover secrets hidden in plain sight in Washington, DC by foot!

About this event

Did you know there is wisdom embedded throughout the visual make up of Washington, DC? Curious what you can learn about the Nation’s Capitol by paying attention to street alignment, symbols on buildings, and numerical patterns found in various objects and places in the city?

Join an Egypt on the Potomac Field Trip facilitator to uncover secrets hidden in plain sight along the 16th Street Meridian Hill Corridor of Light.

During this walking excursion you will explore aspects of African mythology, African American, American, and Washington DC history. The Field Trip illuminates the ancient Egyptian influence on the founding fathers of the United States of America, as well as their acknowledgement of the Nile Valley origins of civilization.

We will walk less than a mile through Meridian Hill Park and up 16th Street.

Where does the Walking Field Trip take place?

The Field Trip begins at Meridian Hill Park and concludes at the Washington Family Church on 16th Street, NW. During the Field Trip, you will learn why this street is known as the Corridor of Light and you will visit the Scottish Rite Temple.

During the Walking Field Trip wrap-up at the Washington Family Church you will virtually explore other sites visited during the traditional Field Trip, including the House of the Temple, L’Enfant Plaza, and Banneker Circle.

What should I bring with me on the Walking Field Trip?

Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and clothes. Dress for the weather. Face coverings are required while inside the church. (Note: Your Facilitator may remove their face covering while indoors to ensure you can hear clearly.) We recommend bringing water, sunglasses, and something to take notes with. Video or audio recording of the Field Trip is NOT permitted.

Is lunch included during the Walking Field Trip?

Lunch is not included in the Walking Field Trip.

Are there bathroom breaks?

There aren’t bathroom breaks during the first half of the Walking Field Trip. Restrooms are available to use at Washington Family Church during the Field Trip wrap-up.

Is the Walking Field Trip wheel chair accessible?

Some locations visited during the Walking Field Trip involve stairs, so participation in this full event is not wheelchair accessible. Please contact us before purchasing a ticket if you need wheelchair accommodations.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No. If you do not print your ticket, you may be asked to show your ticket confirmation on your mobile device.

What happens if there is inclement weather?

Be sure to check your email for updates the day before the Field Trip. The Field Trip may be cancelled depending on the severity of the weather conditions. If the Field Trip is cancelled, this is the only basis that refunds will be issued. Please contact us if you have questions about whether the Field Trip will take place.

What happens if I get stuck in traffic and am running late?

Please build in additional travel time to accommodate inevitable traffic delays and to allow time to find a parking space. If you do not arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the Walking Field Trip, you may forfeit your ticket. If you are able to catch up with the group, you can join, however the facilitator will not repeat the content you missed.

What happens if I am no longer able to attend the Walking Field Trip?

Ticket purchases are non-refundable. You may transfer your ticket to another person. We understand that emergencies happen sometimes. If you would like to transfer your ticket to a future Walking Field Trip during the current Field Trip season, we will do this complimentary one time. If you need to transfer your ticket a second time, you will be charged a $10 convenience fee for your order.
