After a career in medical genetics on the faculties of the University of Tennessee, Duke, and Yale, Dr. Qumsiyeh moved back to Bethlehem where he teaches and does research at Bethlehem and Birzeit Universities in the Palestinian territories. At Bethlehem University, a Catholic co-educational institution serving Christian and Muslim students, he is director of the Palestine Museum of Natural History and the Palestine Institute of Biodiversity and Sustainability. Dr. Qumsiyeh is the author of The Bats of Egypt, Mammals of the Holy Land, Sharing the Land of Canaan, and more than 130 research papers. In 2011, Dr. Qumsiyeh received the 2011 Social Courage Award from the Peace and Justice Studies Association at the Christian Brothers University in Tennessee. The event is free and open to the public.
