 o write the book\, as well of his experiences writing on the human conditi
 on from an Arab perspective.\n\n‘The gods weave misfortunes so that futu
 re generations may have something to sing about’ – with this quote fro
 m Homer’s Odyssey Luay Abdul-Ilah opens his new novel about a set of s
 ealed envelopes discovered in the wrong suitcase mistakenly collected from
  the luggage hold of an airport bus. Each envelope unfolds the story of a 
 group of ex-patriot Iraqis as their world is turned upside down by the Gul
 f War of 1990–91.\n\nLuay Abdul-Ilah Mohammed is an Iraqi writer\, trans
 lator\, journalist and essayist. He has published several collections of s
 hort stories\, including Al-Uboor ila al-Dhifat al-Ukhra (Crossing to th
 e Opposite Bank)\, Ahlam al-Video (Video Dreams) and Ramyat Zahr (Dice
  Throw). His first novel was Komedya Al-Hubb Al-Ilahi (Comedy of Divine 
 Love). Since 2009\, he has also worked as a fractional Arabic lecturer spe
 cialising in second language acquisition at the Aga Khan University – In
