DESCRIPTION:DULUTH\, MN\n\nAmwaaj is a Minnesota-based ensemble performing
  classical\, folk and modern music of the Arab world on traditional instru
 ments: oud\, violin\, nay\, buzuq\, riqq\, and darbukkah or Egyptian tabla
 .\n\nAmwaaj will be joined by guest artist Rana Mishrawi on qanun.\n\nEach
  of the Amwaaj members have spent years studying with noted practitioners 
 of the art\, including Palestinian oudist\, violinist\, composer and maste
 r educator Simon Shaheen and Lebanese nay and flute master Bassam Saba.\n\
 nThis is a rare opportunity to hear live classical Arabic music played on 
 traditional instruments and to learn more about this elegant and sophistic
 ated musical tradition\, just one aspect of the rich world of Arab arts. T
 his concert will appeal to lovers of acoustic music\, European early music
  aficionados\, and those curious about music and instruments from around t
 he world.\n\nThere will be a short pre-concert talk.\n\nWorkshops to learn
  more about the music will be offered on Saturday. Details to be announced
 .\n\nLaura Harada is a fiscal year 2023 recipient of a Creative Support fo
 r Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is
  made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minneso
 ta State Arts Board\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts 
 and cultural heritage fund.
