About this Event:

WE EXIST: The Mobilization of Arab Americans through Representation and IdentificationMarhaba! You are cordially invited to spend the weekend with us at our 1st Annual Arab National Conference at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor from March 20th-22nd, 2020!Hosted by the Arab Student Association (ASA), this conference is intended to empower Arab students with the means to say “WE EXIST” on a multitude of platforms nationwide. Through collaboration and fellowship, we want to present undergraduate students with the opportunity to find their Arab identity on their respective campuses.Inclusive of our theme “We Exist”, we will be focusing on three aspects through which the Arab community can subsist within:WE EXIST Professionally: Here we will focus on the presence of Arabs students on a professional level. We will be joined by the following distinguished organizations: The National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA), The Arab Business Society (ABS), and the Middle Eastern Law Student Association (MESLA). Attendees will be able to meet with fellow Arabs representing some of the prestigious members from these organizations to grow professionally, build connections, and create a network with other Arab students across the country.WE EXIST Collectively: Here we focus on the ways that Arab Americans contribute philanthropically and through activism. We will be joined by the following distinguished organizations: UNICEF, Students Organize 4 Syria (SOS), Yemeni Student Association (YSA), and Students Allied for Freedom and Equality (SAFE), along with representatives from their respective communities. They will focus on how they engage in activism and philanthropy. Attendees will learn of ways to aid countries and citizens in need and create positive impacts in communities globally.WE EXIST Culturally: It is also our goal to focus on enriching our students with knowledge regarding their roots. We plan to host workshops to inspire, innovate, and increase the understanding of our Arab American identity. We will be joined by the first Arab based Sorority (Epsilon Alpha Sigma) and Fraternity (Omega Beta Eta), as well as the Arabesque Dance Troupe, Hikayaat, and The Arab Student Association. Attendees will be able to engage in conversations about their intersecting identities and celebrate their shared culture.More details including the schedule, what to bring, and other information can be found at our website.
