DESCRIPTION:NEW YORK CITY\, NEW YORK\n\n\n\nA special opportunity in NYC fo
 r an all-day Arabic calligraphy workshop with master calligrapher\, Khalid
  Casado!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaterials and supplies are provided\, and all skill 
 levels are welcome! Advanced students have an opportunity to work on their
  meshq as well as tuning their qalams.\n\nThe Artist: Drawn to the elegant
  forms of classical Arabic calligraphy\, Khalid Casado\, found himself sco
 uring the internet to learn more. His search led him to meet the esteemed 
 Nuria Garcia Masip\, who had trained with the best artists in this field. 
 Meeting her opened up doors to worlds that he could have never imagined. A
 fter six years of training\, traveling and relentlessly practicing\, he re
 ceived his icacet\, or license\, in Istanbul.\n\nNow a master in his own r
 ight\, Khalid brings a unique perspective to the art of Arabic calligraphy
 . Khalid pours over the details of compositions and plays with lines and d
 ots\, poetry and sacred verse\, in unexpected ways\, but always maintainin
 g the integrity of the classical form\, in letter and manner.\n\nKhalid te
 aches and exhibits internationally. You can view his works most recently a
 t exhibitions such as the Biennial in Sharjah\, Medina in Saudi Arabia\, B
 arcelona\, Washington DC and most recently Mexico City.\n\nThis workshop i
 s presented in partnership with the generous support of NY based and aspir
 ing calligrapher\, Asad Husain.\n\n-\n\nThe Reed Society for the Sacred Ar
 ts (RSSA) works with a global network of artists and musicians to nurture 
 the cultural\, intellectual\, and spiritual wisdom woven into sacred art f
 orms. The Reed Society's work serves not only as a platform for cultural p
 reservation but also as a source of healing and reconnection for diverse p
 opulations\, particularly diaspora communities\, immigrants\, and refugees
  seeking to engage with their heritage.\nIn collaboration with leading art
 ists and institutions\, our organization curates a rich array of programs 
 — including hands-on workshops\, immersive retreats\, musical performanc
 es\, academic lectures\, and exhibitions. The Reed Society’s work spans 
 disciplines such as Arabic and Ottoman calligraphy\, Islamic illumination 
 (tazhib/tehzib)\, sacred geometry\, and traditional music forms such as Qa
 wwali and Sufi-inspired vocal traditions.\n\nThe Reed Society has partnere
 d with organizations such as the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian 
 Art\, The Walters Art Museum\, The Kennedy Center\, and major universities
