In this ongoing, once a week course, we will practice Arabic conversation in the Levantine dialect. Topics covered will vary from week to week, and will usually be focused on school subjects including language arts, math, science, social studies, music, and art. Topics are also open to parent and student suggestion, and students are especially encouraged to suggest topics for the class. The class will meet for 35 minutes, and will always commence with a 5 minute warm up and check-in to make sure all students feel comfortable and ready to speak in Arabic. The remaining 30 minutes will be focused on question and answer style conversation. As the instructor, I will pose questions for students to answer and guide a discussion based on that answer to promote vocabulary building and reinforcing in Arabic. I am very patient with children, and I encourage them to make mistakes freely and not feel shy or embarrassed about making mistakes. Learners will interact with me and each other for the entirety of the class. While the class will mainly involve discussion, at times we will also play games (usually in the format of “Jeopardy”) or watch short videos to help reinforce the language. Learners should have a basic foundation of Arabic and be able to communicate in it.
