Arabic Nights In Brooklyn: Dance In Cultural Diplomacy
Date(s) - 12/01/2018
7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
“Arabic Nights in Brooklyn” is an award-winning dance spectacle as part of cultural diplomacy series, executed by Torkom Movsesiyan to show the varied, fascinating ethnic dances of the Middle East and North Africa to the general public, and give “a bit of home” to North African and Middle Eastern immigrants in Bay Ridge. Because of recent rising anti-immigrant sentiments in the U.S., this project is necessary to help break down clichés, stereotypes, misunderstandings, and hostilities about Arabic culture. Similarly, the mission of this project is to foster mutual understanding between the West and the Middle East through Middle Eastern dance. Dance Artists to be announced.
“Arabic Nights in Brooklyn” is sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC).
