About the Class

The NY Arabic Orchestra Arabic Rhythm and Vocal Workshop is a 3-hour intensive class giving students an overview of the powerful connection between Arabic rhythm, poetry, and song, from the Andalusian period over 1000 years ago, to the Golden Age of Arabic music in the last century. The workshop welcomes both native and non-native Arabic speakers, as well as those studying or trained in singing. Coursework includes analysis and performance of classical Arabic songs, Arabic rhythms, and frame drum work. (Students may use their hands if they do not own a frame drum).

Ability to read sheet music, interest/strength in language acquisition, or strong ear suggested.

Limit 10 participants per section.
