The NY Arabic Orchestra Arabic Vocal and Choral Workshop is a 3-hour Intensive Vocal Class geared toward both native and non-native Arabic speakers, as well as those studying or trained in singing. Coursework includes analysis and performance of classical Arabic songs and diction work.
Prerequisite for those interested in joining the New York Arabic orchestra.
Ability to read sheet music, interest/strength in language aquisition, or strong ear suggested.
Limit 10 participants per section.
Nano Raies is a singer and songwriter originally from Homs, Syria. She fled the war in Syria in pursuit of her passion in music, becoming the first Syrian female to attend Berklee College of Music. Nano has performed with Simon Shaheen, Bassam Saba and Charbel Rouhana, and sang at a rare performance for World Bank in Washington D.C. before 50 ministers and kings. Nano sings in Arabic, English and French, and fuses Middle Eastern Arabic music, classical, pop, jazz, gypsy jazz, Latin, and bossa nova in her original compositions, and has performed with western bands such as Pink Martini.
