Date(s) - 03/07/2020 - 03/08/2020
11:00 am - 3:00 pm
1900 18th St. NW, Washington, DC 2009
In celebration of International Women’s Month, join us as we hear from the Palestinian Women artists whose artwork is featured
in our premier exhibition: Art of Palestinian Women
Dana is joining us all the way from Amman, Jordan! Dana’s collection featured in Art of Palestinian Women is inspired by the widely cited rhetoric “a land without a people for a people without a land.” The artworks portray and focus on the people of the claimed land without a people. Dana grew up surrounded by women who painted, sewed, designed and made art. For Dana, the act of artistic creation is inseparable from notions of the real world. In times where socio-political changes compose an inherent part of our reality, she chooses to reflect the context within her work and consequently creates politically and socially engaged art.
Lux is joining us all the way from Australia! Lux is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersections of digital photography, video, sound, dance, long durational performance and meditation. Lux’s works on exhibition at MPP features eight portraits of Women, each from colonised and/or Indigenous heritage. Alongside, her video work: Displacing Colonisation, together made up the collection for her last solo exhibition – Defying Damage: Decolonising the Gaze 2018. Her other video works: Aura Nox Anima 2016, currently featuring in Dance Cinema’s inaugural flm event for Sydney’s March Dance festival 2020 and Dune 2015, are also included in this Pan-Pacifc journey.
