SUMMARY:Artists For Gaza Fundraiser Night
DESCRIPTION:\n\nJoin us for an evening of music and poetry at the library t
o raise funds and awareness about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
All procceds will be donated to volunteer ER doctor in Gaza named Oday Al
  Zayyan.\n\nMore about the performers...\n\nDalia Adel\nDalia is a poet ha
iling from Southern California who will be presenting a sequence of origin
al poems that tell a story of the Palestinian experience. Each poem is wri
tten to capture the collective struggle of the Palestinian people\, weavin
g together the themes of hardship\, hope and enduring spirit\, from the be
ginning of their plight to their ongoing resilience in the face of injusti
 ce.\n\nMyriam Al-Ahmad\n\nA mix of theatre\, poetry\, storytelling\, and s
ong\, “The Last Branch” is a piece written by Myriam Ali-Ahmad and tak
en from her solo show “Handala” which had its debut at the 2024 Hollyw
ood Fringe Festival and won the Best Solo Show Award. In this piece\, the
character of Zahra looks back on her motherly relationship to her olive tr
ees. “The Last Branch” quotes two poems by Palestinian poets: “If I
must die” by Refaat Alareer\, and “Y” (Gaza from A to Z) by Mosab Ab
u-Toha\n\nKarla Lamb\nKarla Lamb (she/her/ella) is a queer Chicana poet bo
rn in Mexico City\, with work forthcoming or appearing in Hooligan Mag\, F
 ruitslice\, Tilted House\, Cobra Milk\, Rejected Lit\, A Women’s Thing M
agazine\, YES Poetry\, Coal Hill Review\, Fine Print Press\, Dream Boy Boo
 k Club\, Word Riot\, Pittsburgh Poetry Journal\, &amp\; elsewhere. Her wor
k has been twice nominated for the Best of the Net Anthology\, &amp\; tran
slated in Revista La Peste. Lamb hosts Verse4Verse\, a monthly Queer-Expan
sive poetry open mic in East LA. In her work\, Karla Lamb’s most recent
poems manage to cure an existential hangover with an expensive smoothie co
 nsisting of queer culture\, lost &amp\; found love\, a dash of gumption\,
&amp\; a pinch of comedic hubris- all while biking down Sunset BLV.\n\nRan
 a Salloom\n\nRana Salloom is a multi-displinary artist living between LA a
nd Beirut. She has exhibited her work all over the world including at LBMA
\, ArtSpace HP\, Mantle Presents and a Gaza benefit in Jordan. She has spo
ken on panels and done voiceovers for Grassroots International to help fun
draiser for Gaza. She will be opening the show and showcasing a couple of
original works discussing the polarization of being from the Middle East a
nd coming to the US.\n\nAli Abourehab\nAli Abourehab is a American Egyptia
n musician based out of Long Beach\, CA. He along with his partner Abby\,
head a project called Human Musik. He also places in a couple of other pro
jects in and around the LB/LA area. He will be playing electronic music wi
th psyche rock influence.\n\nSmooth Jas\nSmooth Jas is Long Beach native J
as Navarro (they/them). What started in late 2018 as a necessary means of
self-expression—with little more intention than a diary entry—has tran
sformed over five years into a fully-fledged music project with a small-bu
t-mighty local following. Blending the inspiration and talents of multiple
musician friends across various states\, Smooth Jas serves as a vessel fo
 r Navarro’s exploration and expression as a musician\, writer\, human be
 ing\, and friend.\n\nSalome Hajj\n\nSalome Hajj is a harpist\, singer\, an
 d songwriter/multi-instrumentalist from Long Beach\, California. Informed
by a past life in which she was a classical trombonist\, Salome’s classi
cal sensibilities conspire with her literary inclinations to create a genr
e-transcending sound- a voice that is uniquely hers. Salome is inspired by
the focused prose of Leonard Cohen\, and the humorous wisdom of David Ber
man. Armed with a band of heavy-hitting jazz musicians\, she is in a long
con to win hearts in many corners of Los Angeles’s music scene.
