NAOMI SHIHAB NYE is a multiple-award-winning poet, songwriter, and novelist, the daughter of a Palestinian refugee. She says a visit to her grandmother in the West Bank village of Sinjil was a life-changing experience.  Known for her warm and celebratory tone, her poems “often pull gold from the ordinary” and “convey a delicate sense of moral concern and a necessary sense of urgency”; she has published or contributed to over 30 volumes.  Naomi’s book 19 Varieties of Gazelle: Poems of the Middle East (2002) was a finalist for the National Book Award — and in 2019 she was named the Poetry Foundation’s Young People’s Poet Laureate.

Elmaz Abinader is a Lebanese-American poet, playwright, novelist, and performer. Her poetry collection This House, My Bones, was the Editor’s Selection 2014 from Willow Books. She has a memoir: Children of the Roojme, A Family’s Journey from Lebanon, and a book of poetry, In the Country of My Dreams. Deema Shehabi is a Kuwaiti-born poet, writer and editor; of Palestinian heritage, her mother was from Gaza and her father from Jerusalem. She is author of Thirteen Departures from the Moon, co-editor with Beau Beausoleil of Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here, and co-author with Marilyn Hacker of Diaspo/Renga, about the 2014 Israeli bombing of Gaza. Deema is also winner of the Nazim Hikmet Poetry Prize in 2018.

Dennis Bernstein taught in NYC public schools before becoming an award-winning investigative journalist and essayist.  He is also executive producer / host of Flashpoints, syndicated on Pacifica Radio. His most recent poetry book, Five Oceans in a Teaspoon, won the 2020 IPPY Global Gold Medal for Poetry,
