In 2014, Montgomery County, Md., declared April as Arab American Heritage Month. This celebration recognizes and honors the contributions that Arab Americans make to the nation. The Office of Interprofessional Student Learning and Service Initiatives also began recognizing Arab American Heritage Month in 2014.
UMB students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to participate in events and activities at the university and within the surrounding communities to celebrate Arab American Heritage Month.
To kick of NAAHM, Isra Chacker, who is a Muslim woman that has worked to defend and advocate for refugees, will be sharing her experiences being both Muslim and Arab-American.
