Jill Jarvis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of French and a member of the councils on African Studies and Middle East Studies at Yale. Her book Decolonizing Memory: Algeria & the Politics of Testimony was published by Duke University Press in 2021. Her current project, Signs in the Desert: Aesthetic Cartographies of the Sahara, builds a case for how contemporary writers and filmmakers from across the African Sahara transform the reductive ways in which this desert has long been mapped. She is also a founding member of the Desert Futures Collective, an interdisciplinary research collaboration.
