The Common in the City 2016: A Celebration of Contemporary Arabic Fiction
Date(s) - 05/19/2016
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us for The Common in the City 2016, a night of drinks, canapés, and performed readings from The Common’s special spring issue, Tajdeed: Contemporary Arabic Stories in Translation.
In the past three years, fewer than 0.5% percent of English translations came from the Arab world. The Common seeks to expand the reach of this region’s work, bringing previously inaccessible literature of thematic, stylistic and political importance to a new audience. Tajdeed (meaning renewal) features the work of 31 contributors from 15 Middle Eastern countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
Help us celebrate this exciting new issue and support The Common’s bold and innovative work! We hope to see you there.
