Cookin' Like a Chef: Lebanese Meat Pies

What is a Lebanese meat pie you ask!? Lebanese Meat Pies are triangles of baked dough that are filled with a warm, rich flavored ground beef mixture of onions, garlic, and spices. They are often called Fatayer, but I have also heard them called Sfeeha. Students will learn about Lebanon and create a meat filling. They will also learn how to stuff it to create their own hot pockets. They will be introduced to an interesting spice called Sumac and how a sweet spice like cinnamon can be used in savory dishes. They will have the opportunity to add or take away spices and create a customized version of the recipe. We will learn a little bit about the dish and why certain spices were added to it.
