The students will learn how to make an Arabian Checkmate by using a Knight and a Rook to checkmate the King trapped in a corner. This checkmate is one of the oldest checkmates because the moves of the Knight and Rook and not changed for over a thousand years, while the moves of the other pieces have changed. The students will also learn how to do the Hallway Checkmate by trapping the King in the middle of the board by using Rooks or Queens to guard the Ranks or Files, or “Hallways” on the chessboard.
