Urban Adamah & Resetting the Table: Young Adult Cohort

Resetting the Table’s work builds community capacity for courageous conversations and learning across political differences on Israel-Palestine. Throughout the series, participants will explore areas of agreement and disagreement, while strengthening relationships, trust, learning, and collaboration.

Sessions 1 & Session 2: Speaking Across Conflict Workshop

February 17, 5:30 – 7:15 PM

February 25, 5:30 – 7:30 PM

Resetting the Table’s flagship workshop offers communication skill-building for charged conversations on Israel-Palestine and a forum for using these skills in difficult conversations across disagreement. In the first session, we will get to know one another and exchange views and personal stories. In the second session, we will surface commonalities and differences, and practice communication skills for engaging differences directly and constructively. The workshop teaches participants tools for ‘doing disagreement better,’ applicable not only to political differences but to all domains of life.

Session 3: Dual Narratives – Roots of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

March 3, 5:30 – 7:45 PM

Participants will explore the birth of both Jewish and Palestinian national aspirations and their divergent experiences of Israel’s founding. Participants will discuss the ways historical narratives live on today, how they shape the negotiating table, and whether mutual recognition for these narratives might help pave a path forward.

Session 4: Five Views – Where do we go from Here?

March 10, 5:30 – 8:30 PM

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is in large part a conflict over who may exercise rights and sovereignty over the same strip of land, resources, and holy sites. This session introduces participants to how different conceptions of land, security, and justice inform five divergent Jewish-Israeli visions for management of or resolutions to the conflict. This class asks participants to try on multiple perspectives and relate to the material on their own terms.

Session 5: Town Square Conversations

March 17, 5:30 – 7:30 PM

This session will provide a forum for the cohort to engage in open conversation on charged issues that matter most to the group in a facilitated, small group discussion. The Town Square provides a unique opportunity to engage in honest, direct conversation across differences in backgrounds and views.

This Program is supported by the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund.
