About Yoga POC Sangha’s Critical Reading Circles:

CRC contextualizes the Yoga POC Sangha in a historical and philosophical understanding and awareness of what it means to reclaim yoga and meditation, and what it means to build a spiritual practice around social justice. It provides our community the critical literacy and critical thinking skills that go hand in hand with yoga and mediation, to actualize individual and collective empowerment, healing and liberation.

We discuss texts that are intersectional, that center race, gender, sexuality, class, nationality, capability, etc…

We examine many axis of power and domination and oppression: patriarchy, sexism, U.S. settler colonialism, imperialism, empire, racism, white supremacy, castism, colorism, immigration, illegality, deportation, detention, the prison industrial complex, the medical industrial complex, exploitation, global capitalism, class oppression, normative ableism, the biopolitics of exceptional bodily capacities and disabilities, heteronormativity, heterosexism, homonationalism, violence, militarism, occupation, anti-blackness, anti-Indianism, anti-arab/muslim racism, zionism, pinkwashing, etc…

We will read from the intersectional breadth and scope of Critical Race Studies, Critical Ethnic Studies, Critical Indigenous Studies, Indigenous Feminisms, Queer Indigenous Studies, Women of Color Feminisms, Transnational Feminisms, Asian Feminist Diaspora Studies, Queer of Color Critiques, Transgender Studies, Studies on Disability Justice, Arab and Muslim American Studies, etc…

We sit with the words of radical POC intellectuals, to expand our awareness and consciousness on justice and love so that we can actualize them more deeply, inwardly and outwardly.
