Jawaahir Dance Company
Jawaahir, or “jewels” in Arabic, presents one-of-a-kind artistic and educational programs that showcase the beauty and distinctiveness of Middle Eastern dance. We have a history of giving exciting theater throughout the Metro area. The Company is a dynamic ambassador for presenting the art and culture of the Arabic world to all age groups.
Jawaahir Dance Company is dedicated to presenting Middle Eastern dance as a living art form at its highest artistic level, bringing the Middle East’s rich folkloric heritage to the theater stage, and providing education about the dance in its authentic form for dance students and the general public. In carrying out our mission, we strive to make our work culturally, financially, and physically accessible to the public.
Jawaahir’s mission is more important than ever — the need for cross-cultural understanding is great, and the call for tolerance is crucial. Jawaahir’s artistic programs present powerful alternatives to the negative images of Middle Eastern people so prevalent in American stereotypes and popular imagination. In addition, our programs offer opportunities for Arab-Americans to celebrate their rich and varied culture. Through the enchantment of music and dance, Jawaahir creates a space where cross-cultural appreciation can grow and tolerance can flourish.
|This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board and the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund; O’Shaughnessy Foundation; and friends of Jawaahir.|
