DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nExplore the rich visual language and cultural meaning of 
 one of the world’s most enduring art forms through the work and insight 
 of master calligrapher Nihad Dukhan.\n\nIn this artist talk\, Dukhan will 
 explore Arabic calligraphy as both an aesthetic practice and a civilizatio
 nal emblem\, tracing its historical roots\, spiritual dimensions\, and con
 temporary relevance. Through images\, personal reflections\, and selected 
 works\, audiences will gain a deeper appreciation of calligraphy as a livi
 ng tradition that continues to shape cultural identity across generations.
 \n\nWhile at the museum\, be sure to check out Sacred Lines\, Luminous Pa
 ges: Exploring Arabic Calligraphy and Illumination with illuminator Behna
 z Karjoo and calligrapher Khalid Casado\, who will demonstrate their pract
 ices in the Great Hall from 1 to 3 p.m.\n\nBoth programs are presented in 
 collaboration with Reed Society for the Sacred Arts.\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Ar
 tist\n\n\n\n\nNihad Dukhan\nA Michigan-based Palestinian American artist a
 nd professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Detroit Mercy\
 , Dukhan bridges analytical precision with artistic mastery in his approac
 h to calligraphy.\n\nTrained in the classical tradition in Istanbul\, Dukh
 an holds multiple ijazahs from some of the most revered calligraphers of o
 ur time\, including Hasan Çelebi\, Mohamed Zakariya\, and Abdul Razak Kar
 akash. His training spans styles such as Thuluth\, Naskh\, Taliq\, Deewani
 \, and Deewani Jali. Alongside this rigorous classical foundation\, he has
  developed a distinctive modern calligraphic style since 1989\, expanding 
 the expressive possibilities of the art form.\n\n\n\n\n
