Detroit Muslim Artists and Creatives Meet-Up!
Date(s) - 01/16/2019
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Arab American National Museum
Through the support of the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art, and the collaboration with our Detroit consultant Razi Jafri, and local institutional partner the Arab American National Museum, New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is pleased to invite all Muslim artists, creatives, designers, and makers – of all backgrounds and disciplines – living in the Detroit metropolitan area to join us at a Muslim Artists and Creatives Meet-Up on January 16.
In this meeting, our co-organizer, Razi Jafri, will focus on a call for submissions for the Halal Metropolis Exhibit series and share updates, including the possibility of the group’s alignment with the national organization: the GAMA Collective (Gathering All Muslim Artists). At our first meeting, we informally launched our collective, met other local Muslim artists/makers/designers, and learned about a couple of amazing opportunities such as Indus Detroit and Halal Metropolis.
Additionally, NYFA’s objective is to informally connect with you and build an understanding of the support you need through a survey we will share at this meeting. Based on the input you provide, NYFA will craft and host a directed professional development workshop at the beginning of March for all the artists and creatives who attend this initial meet-up.
The meet-up will be held on Wednesday, January 16 from 6-8 pm at The Annex @ the Arab American National Museum: 13624 Michigan Ave., Dearborn, MI, 48126
