Washington, DC

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – (WASHINGTON DC) : Birthed at the Chicago’s Laugh
Factory, we are pleased to announce its’ newest stand-up show for the Zeitgeist, the
edgiest political comedy show in years: ‘DIVIDE & CONQUER.’ The show features
each city’s best stand-up talent exploring perennially divisive topics––such as race,
religion, and politics––against the backdrop of Trump’s America. DIVIDE & CONQUER
is the brainchild of globally touring stand-up comedian, Azhar Usman, and the show’s
main host, DC native comedian, David Carter. They both defend one main idea:
“Good comedy unites. Great comedy divides.”

DIVIDE & CONQUER is where each city’s hardest-hitting comedians come to make
audiences laugh and think. The aim of the show is to get the best comedians to step
outside their comfort zones, with thought-provoking stand-up material, to spur real
dialogue about current events and issues in the world.

Azhar is world-renowned, having toured over 25 countries on 5 continents. He’s worked
with political and racially-charged comedy superstars like Hari Kondabolu, Aamer
Rahman, Russell Peters, Hasan Minhaj, and the legendary Dave Chappelle–for whom
Usman has opened over 50 times–who said: “Azhar Usman is UNTOUCHABLE, he’s
like a comedian from the future.” Usman is having a breakout year, serving as a
writer for Hasan Minhaj’s performance at the 2017 White House Correspondents
Dinner, as well as a creative consultant on Hasan’s new Netflix special, “Homecoming
King.” Last year, he served as a creative consultant on Hannibal Buress’ Netflix special
“Comedy Camisado,” and debuted his own one-man show “ULTRA AMERICAN: A
PATRIOT ACT,” a political comedy show which was recommended for a Jeff Award. He
guest stars in Amazon Studios’ big-budget, 2017 original series “PATRIOT,” a dark
political comedy created, written, and directed by Chicago native Steven Conrad.

DIVIDE & CONQUER is also co-produced by Chicago-based stand-up comics Rob
Mailoux and Mona Aburmishan. Mona has been seen on Comedy Central, performed at
Carnegie Hall, and describes D&C as, “a show that brings together us all and creates a
space for laughter and resolution!” Rob Mailoux, JFL & Oddball Fest, says, “Divide &
Conquer is the show this country needed two years ago. Better late than never!”

Laugh Factory Chicago’s manager, Curtis Shaw Flagg, shared the producers’
enthusiasm for the show: “There is no other comedy show like DIVIDE & CONQUER in
the city of Chicago. The Laugh Factory is so excited to be working with such a talented
team to build and grow this ‘divisive’ comedy show!”
