SUMMARY:DIWAN: A Forum for the Arts
DESCRIPTION:DIWAN: A Forum for the Arts brings together local and nationall
 y based artists\, curators\, and other makers and creatives who trace thei
 r identity to the SWANA region (Southwest Asia and North Africa). Program 
 activities include poetry and prose readings\, film screenings\, music per
 formances\, and presentations of research about contemporary art forms\, r
 epresentation\, and identity and expression in America. DIWAN will be held
  from September 19-20\, 2025 at AANM in Dearborn\, Michigan\, and will com
 memorate the Museum’s 20th anniversary with the theme “The Houses We B
 uild for Ourselves.”\n\nDIWAN will center a retrospective of contemporar
 y issues that impact participating artists’ practices and work. This pro
 ject reinforces AANM’s commitment to providing a space for community mem
 bers\, artists\, creatives\, researchers\, and arts organizations to meet\
 , exchange ideas\, and share their work. It also encourages audiences to e
 xplore the boundaries of art in addressing issues important to Arab Americ
 ans\, immigrants and refugees\, and Indigenous\, Black\, and Brown communi
 ties across our region and the country.
