The Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island Refugee Resettlement Program is offering the following workshop for mental health providers:
Understanding Refugee Needs: Successful Strategies for Providing Mental Health Services to Non-English Speaking Clients
Presenters Sue Reuker, LICSW and Anne Fortier, LICSW.
This three-hour workshop provides strategies and skills for mental health providers to successfully engage non-English speaking clients using an interpreter to create strong therapeutic relationships and work toward treatment goals while using an interpreter. Included is an overview of the Rhode Island refugee community, the steps for obtaining interpreters, and strategies to build a strong client-specific culturally competent treatment team.
This training is designed for mental health providers who are interested in learning more about the refugee community in Rhode Island and who may like to provide mental health services to those in need,
The Rhode Island Department of Human Services has generously provided funds for this program in order to ensure high quality mental health services are available for all who are in need in the Rhode Island refugee community. RI NASW has approved 3 cross cultural continuing education credits for this program.
The workshop is approved by RI NASW for 3 cross-cultural CEUs.
