DESCRIPTION:This one-day preconference explores the shared epistemologies\,
  divergences\, and entangled histories of Arab and African thought on medi
 a and culture. In alignment with the 2025 ICA theme—Disrupting and Conso
 lidating Communication Research—this gathering foregrounds scholarship f
 rom the Global South to reimagine the future of media and communication st
 udies.\n\nRather than positioning Arab and African scholarship in isolatio
 n or in contrast to Western thought\, the preconference focuses on longsta
 nding traditions of exchange and zones of intellectual\, cultural\, and po
 litical transaction—stretching from Timbuktu to Baghdad\, Fez to the Sah
 ara. It seeks to highlight theoretical approaches and lived cosmologies th
 at resist compartmentalization and offer rich alternatives for global medi
 a theorizing.\n\nFramed around three keywords—Exchange\, Experiment\, a
 nd Excess—the day’s sessions invite generative conversations on openn
 ess\, creative methodologies\, and epistemic possibilities that spill beyo
 nd disciplinary boundaries.
