SUMMARY:Exhibition Reception: Geometric Aljamia
DESCRIPTION:\n\nJoin us for the reception for our exhibit Geometric Aljami
 a: A Cultural Transliteration. The exhibit is a cross-cultural collaborati
 on that addresses how connections between the Middle East and the West dur
 ing the Golden Age of Islamic Civilization continue to be relevant and vib
 rant in the twenty-first century. The project includes artists\, designers
 \, performers\, and writers from Afghanistan\, Qatar\, United Arab Emirate
 s\, Canada\, and the United States. Aljamia is a medieval Spanish word t
 hat refers to Romance language written in Arabic script. The resulting tra
 nsliteration contributed to the dissemination of the Arabic language and I
 slamic influences throughout the Iberian Peninsula and beyond. By understa
 nding the arts as a transliteration of one form of thinking to another and
  addressing the fundamental patterns and geometry embedded in visual art a
 nd poetry\, this project revisits the ongoing impact of Islamic art\, scie
 nce\, and philosophy throughout the world today.
