 ly-acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Victor Ghannam leads an ensemble of ste
 llar musicians of Arab descent headlining the Freedom Arts Festival in Pa
 lmer Park on Saturday\, August 10\, from 2-5 pm.\n\nMusicians\, artists\,
  dancers\, art workshops\, an outdoor high Chai tea room with Amal Alina\,
  and the Mediterranean Express food truck\, will transform the grounds out
 side the historic Log Cabin in Palmer Park overlooking beautiful Lake Fran
 ces.\n\nThe musicians will create magic by performing on instruments with 
 ancient histories\, including the kanun (predecessor of the piano)\, oud (
 predecessor of the guitar)\, nay (bamboo flute)\, Riq (tambourine) and Tab
 la (percussions). Their improvisations and traditionally inspired music wi
 ll celebrate freedom\, harmony\, and understanding at the free\, family-fr
 iendly concert. Bring a lawn chair or blanket!\n\nMexican visual artist\,
  Kresge Arts Fellow\, and esteemed muralist who created the poster for the
  Freedom Arts Festival\, Elton Monroy Duran will lead a hands-on art wor
 kshop for all ages to learn painting and creative techniques. Shop with l
 ocal artists\, have your hand painted with a Henna design and enjoy delici
 ous food\, iced teas\, sweets\, and coffee. Share the joy of Dabkeh danci
 ng. This is a free event for all ages to enjoy.\n\n\nThe annual Freedom Ar
 ts Festival\, now in its third year\, connects Detroiters to their neighbo
 rhood parks. Featuring music\, dance\, storytelling\, and art reflecting D
 etroit’s multicultural tapestry\, the festival brings together freedom\,
  racial justice\, history\, and connection to place through arts and cultu
 re at events throughout the summer and fall at numerous Detroit parks. The

 ut the Musicians:\n\n\n\n \nGhannam will perform on Kanun\, with Nashwan 
 Pola on Oud\, Roger Kashou on Tabla\, Eddy Fadel on Riq (Tambourine)\, and
  Fadi Aziz on Nay (Bamboo Flute).\n \n\n\n\nVictor Ghannam (Kanun/Qanun)
  is American-born of Palestinian descent and an original founding member 
 of the National Arab Orchestra\, considered to be the premier Arab orchest
 ra outside of the Middle East. A virtuoso multi-instrumentalist—especial
 ly the Oud and Kanun—Ghannam has a diverse musical background and versat
 ility in many musical genres\, including Middle Eastern\, Flamenco\, jazz\
 , and more. He has performed throughout Europe\, the Middle East\, and Nor
 th\, Central\, and South America and has toured with many of the leading r
 ecording artists of the Middle East.\n\nGhannam “is most recognized for 
 his dazzling improvisational taqasim which can be romantic passion\, techn
 ical brilliance\, creative adventure\, and intense emotion\,” according 
 to Ara Topouzian\, hyetimesmusic.comAs a session musician\, he was a feat
 ured artist on many popular TV series of Xena: Warrior Princess\, Hercules
 : Legendary Journeys\, and the Starz network hit series Spartacus.Nashwan 
 Pola (Oud) - is a native of Baghdad\, Iraq. He is an original founding me
 mber of the National Arab Orchestra. Nathan began playing Oud at age 10\, 
 tutored in the basics by his father\, a professional musician. He then joi
 ned the prestigious College of Fine Art at the University of Baghdad.Roger
  Kashou (Tabla) is an American born of Palestinian descent. A member of t
 he National Arab Orchestra\, he has most recently toured with the Broadway
  production "The Band's Visit.”\nEddy Fadel (Riq/tambourine) studied at
  the National Conservatory of Music in his native home of Lebanon. He has 
 had some 30 years of performing experience with top stars of the Middle Ea
 st and is proficient on most percussion instruments.Fadi Aziz (Nay/Bamboo
  Flute) hails from Baghdad\, Iraq\, and is considered one of the premier p
 erformers on the Nay. He is a graduate of the Institute of Art in Baghdad
