About this event
On this tour, I’ll be taking you on an exploration of the culture of Ancient Egypt as we visit such sites across London as the British Museum, the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology and Cleopatra’s Needle, amongst others.
From the Rosetta Stone to Ancient Egyptian mummies, you’ll hear about the private lives of certain pharaohs, the art of mummification and the legends of the gods and goddesses, all of which was revealed by the discovery of the Rosetta Stone and the decipherment of Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs.
Highlights include the story of the notorious “heretic” pharaoh Akhenaten; the bloodthirsty actions of the goddess of war, Sekhmet; the fate of any pharaoh who antagonised the gods; the importance of the survival of the soul after death in Ancient Egypt; and the very human reaction of the linguist who deciphered hieroglyphs!
I’m a Blue Badge Tourist Guide who specialises in Ancient Egyptian history and does volunteer work at the Department of Ancient Egypt at the British Museum. I really enjoy making all the pharaohs and deities real behind their masks! 2022 is a year of anniversaries in Egyptology and a time to celebrate their history and culture, so do join me on this tour to find out more.
