|We’ve been having super response to the announcement we sent out earlier about Yousef Aljamal’s upcoming tour. In case you missed that announcement, you can find the details about the tour– and more info about Yousef himself– at this page on the Just World Ed blog.
We are so much looking forward to bringing Yousef’s informed and compassionate witness back to audiences in the United States! He certainly wowed audiences when he was part of the group of young writers who toured the country back in 2014!
We’re juggling numerous expressions of interest from groups eager to host him here in October. But we probably have a few more spots on his schedule. If your organization or college class wants to host a Yousef Aljamal event, please read the details of how we’re doing the organizing and contact us as soon as you can.
(And huge thanks to all the people who’ve already sent in their firm commitments to host Yousef!)
I’m happy to tell you, too, that the amazing Palestinian cartoonist Mohammad Sabaaneh is planning a return visit to the United States next Spring. We don’t have all the details yet, but we’ll be helping to organize his visit.
We’ll get those details to you as soon as we can… But what we need right now are firm letters of invitation to Mohammad from a few respected institutions around the United States– in addition to JWE!– that are interested in hosting him. It is my understanding that these hosting institutions will not be responsible for his international travel. But he needs these invitations now, to help him in the lengthy process of getting his U.S. visa.
Mohammad, as many of you know, is a truly gifted communicator– both verbally and via his sharp-nibbed cartoonist’s pen. (Get his searing 2017 cartoon collection White And Black, here.) On the JWE blog, you can read numerous accounts of events he spoke and presented at around the United States in 2017, and again in 2018.
So we’re delighted that he’ll be coming back here in Spring 2020! Please contact me soonest if an institution you’re connected with can provide him with an invitation letter– and also, let me know which time period between mid-March and mid-April of 2020 would be best for his event with you.
And now, here’s my periodic reminder that all our programs take resources to accomplish well…. If you are moved to make a donation to help support what we do, that would be super-much appreciated!
