With the resounding success of last year’s SOLD OUT online cookalongs, we are launching another fantastic collection of online cooking sessions for everyone to enjoy!
Expect incredible comforting home-cooked dishes from Libya, Peru, Egypt, Bangladesh and Syria, with enthusiastic, knowledgeable and skilled teachers guiding you through each step!
This year we are working with six learners who wished to challenge themselves with their English language and presentation skills, by leading participants through a home cooked dish that they love and are proud of.
Never been to one of our popular cookalongs before? Take a look at last year’s cookalongs to see what it is like >>> https://bit.ly/3bR1NDt
Alaa’s Moussaka with vermicelli rice & yoghurt salad
By Alaa Ali
A bit about Alaa
My name is Alaa Ali. I am from Egypt. I have graduated from the Faculty of Arts (English Literature department). I have been living in Manchester since July 2019. Before this, I lived in Saudi Arabia for 14 years. There I worked as a supervisor for kindergarten for seven years. I am married and I have three children: two daughters and a son.
When I was young, I didn’t like to cook until I travelled to Saudi Arabia and made friends from various countries and discovered their food and culture. As each country has its own unique crops and products, their cuisines, the food they eat, cooking recipes vary. It forms a part of their culture. Food also reflects the beliefs and habits of people. I like to participate in Heart and Parcel sessions to recognise different cultures, make new friends and use cooking as a way to learn English– I love learning. In addition to learning new dishes from all over the world, I enjoy my time in your sessions; I can’t wait for the next one.
For all the aubergine lovers, this is the cookalong for you! Moussaka is a hearty dish packed full of meat, vegetables and flavour. It’s the perfect meal for feeding the family, hosting a dinner party or batch cooking. As the weather gets a bit colder, it’s great for warming you up too.
Join us to learn something new, hear more about Alaa and her life, and about Heart & Parcel and meet new people!

As a participant, you will cook with the Heart & Parcel learner, exploring new flavours, cooking techniques, ingredients, share your own stories and no doubt have an evening of fun, sharing and learning. A great gift for a friend or loved one who enjoys cooking and discovering new dishes.

You will be cooking along with up to 9 other participants – this is an intimate and personal class – you will receive comments, feedback and tips of your cooking should you need.
