DESCRIPTION:\n\nOverview\n\n\n\n\n\nAn illumination of Moroccan design hist
 ories that have been systematically undervalued\, omitted\, or exoticized 
 under colonialism.\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for an evening evening with graphic de
 sign professor Dina Benbrahim\, University of Connecticut.\n\nMoroccan de
 sign narratives that have been systematically undervalued\, omitted or exo
 ticized. From the nineteenth century through the independence from the Fre
 nch Protectorate in 1956\, the story of Moroccan art and design was writte
 n largely from a colonialist perspective. Through retelling design histori
 es centered on Moroccan perspectives\, Dina Benbrahim challenges dominant 
 narratives that have traditionally positioned European aesthetics and meth
 odologies as universal standards\, while relegating non-Western design tra
 ditions to categories like vernacular or craft. Her approach to culturally
  decolonizing design addresses several interconnected layers of historical
  erasure in North Africa. You are invited to an introductory lecture on th
 e topic and engage in a more pluralistic understanding of global design hi
