His Excellency Dr. Fareed Yasseen
Ambassador of Iraq to the United States of America
Ambassador Yasseen is the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United States. He assumed the post in November 2016. Ambassador Yasseen joined Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2004. He has served as head of the Ministry’s Department of Policy Planning, as Diplomatic Advisor to Deputy President Adil Abd al-Mahdi, and, prior to his posting in Washington, for six years as the Ambassador of Iraq to France.

Educated in Iraq, Switzerland, and the United States, Ambassador Yasseen was trained as a physicist and conducted research at leading universities in Europe and the United States before becoming involved in political activism and human rights advocacy. He has worked and consulted at start-up companies, public policy research institutes, and United Nations agencies. In particular, Ambassador Yasseen led pioneering efforts in the use of the Internet at the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Ambassador Yasseen is a Member of the American Physical Society and the International Institute for Strategic Studies. In 2016, he was awarded the Robert and JoAnn Bendetsen Public Diplomacy Award at Tufts University and was also made Commander in France’s National Order of the Legion of Honor.

Dr. John Duke Anthony
Dr. John Duke Anthony is the Founding President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations. On June 21, 2000, H.M. King Muhammad VI of Morocco knighted Dr. Anthony, bestowing upon him the Medal of the Order of Ouissam Alaouite, the nation of Morocco’s highest award for excellence. Dr. Anthony recently served on the United States Department of State Advisory Committee on International Economic Policy’s Subcommittee on Sanctions.
