DESCRIPTION:\n\nWe here at Busboys and Poets Books have been watching with 
 horror as the siege on Gaza continues and the civilian death count rises d
 ay by day. In partnership with the Center for Muslim-Christian Understandi
 ng of Georgetown University\, we present The Gaza Lecture Series of 2024. 
 We invite everyone to come and learn more about the history of settler col
 onialism\, violence\, and genocide in Palestine. Join us for this session 
 to learn about the complicity of the United States in its foreign policy r
 egarding Palestine.\n\nJoining us on the Busboys stage to share their expe
 rtise and knowledge are Mouin Rabbani\, leading Palestinian Intellectual a
 nd co-editor of Jadaliyya\, in conversation with Sarah Leah Whitson\, Exec
 utive Director of Democracy in the Arab World Now (DAWN). There will be a 
 curated selection of books by Palestinian authors/about Palestine availabl
 e for purchase during and after the event.\n\nThis event is free and open 
 to all. Our program begins at 6:00 pm\, and will be followed by an audienc
 e Q&amp\;A. Please note that this event is in person and will be livestrea

  the event from Busboys and Poets Books\n\nMouin Rabbani is a researcher\,
  analyst\, and commentator specialising in Palestinian affairs\, the Arab-
 Israeli conflict\, and the contemporary Middle East. He has previously ser
 ved as Principal Political Affairs Officer with the Office of the UN Speci
 al Envoy for Syria\, Head of Middle East with Crisis Management Initiative
 /Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation\, and Senior Middle East Analyst and Sp
 ecial Advisor on Israel-Palestine with the International Crisis Group. Rab
 bani is Co-Editor of Jadaliyya and Contributing Editor of Middle East Repo
 rt. At Jadaliyya he edits the Quick Thoughts feature and is host of the Co
 nnections podcast. A graduate of Tufts University and Georgetown Universit
 y's Center for Contemporary Arab Studies\, Rabbani has published\, present
 ed and commented widely on Middle East issues\, including for most major p
 rint\, television and digital media. \n\nSarah Leah Whitson is the Execut
 ive Director of DAWN. Previously\, she served as executive director of Hum
 an Rights Watch's Middle East and North Africa Division from 2004 – 2020
 \, overseeing the work of the division in 19 countries\, with staff locate
 d in 10 countries. Whitson has led dozens of advocacy and investigative mi
 ssions throughout the region\, focusing on issues of armed conflict\, acco
 untability\, legal reform\, migrant workers\, and human rights. She has pu
 blished widely on human rights and foreign policy in the Middle East in in
 ternational and regional media\, including The New York Times\, Foreign Af
 fairs\, The Washington Post\, Foreign Policy\, The Los Angeles Times\, and
  CNN. She appears regularly on Al-Jazeera\, BBC\, NPR\, MSNBC\, and CNN. P
 reviously\, Whitson worked in New York for Goldman\, Sachs &amp\; Co. and 
 Cleary\, Gottlieb\, Steen &amp\; Hamilton. She graduated from the Universi
 ty of California\, Berkeley and Harvard Law School.
