About the Polyphony Foundation: Founded in 2011, the Polyphony Foundation works to create a shared future for Israel by bringing together Arab and Jewish youth through the power of music. The Polyphony Quartet brings together violinists Jeries Saleh and Ibrahm Boulus, violist Amichai Hefter, and cellist Eli Levi with flutist Mais Hriesch for an evening performance. The musicians are all participants in Polyphony’s Scholar-in-Residence Seminar, a bi-annual, five-day immersion with two elements: orchestral training that culminates in a public concert, and an academic curriculum focused on the social context of music and intercultural dialogue. Mais is a recent graduate of Bard College in New York where she completed studies in human rights and music.

Under the guidance of Polyphony’s Executive Director, Nabeel Abboud Ashkar, the Quartet gives performances in throughout Israel, Europe, and the United States. Most recently, the Quartet performed traveled to Lerici, Italy, where they performed in the annual Suoni dal Golfo Music & Poetry Festival.

Polyphony reaches over 10,000 students each year through a multi-tiered approach that includes in-school music appreciation curricula and conservatory instruction. Each facet of Polyphony’s work fosters conversations and builds relationships between Jews and Arabs, including young people, their siblings and parents, teachers, instructors, and community. The study and performance of music prepare students for their roles not only as musicians but also ambassadors for promoting intercultural dialogue and reconciliation.
