SUMMARY:Launching Kanafani's Palestinian Resistance Literature Under Occupa
 tion
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nJoin Rashid Khalidi\, Ibtisam Azem\, and Bashir Abu-Manne
h to launch Ghassan Kanafani's Palestinian Resistance Literature Under Occ
upation.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe evening will feature Rashid Khalidi in conversat
ion with Ibtisam Azem and Bashir Abu-Manneh\, to launch the first English
translation of Ghassan Kanafani's Palestinian Resistance Literature Under
Occupation 1948-68.\n\nGhassan Kanafani’s remarkable extended essay Pale
stinian Resistance Literature Under Occupation\, 1948–1968 is an unyield
ing act of cultural and political endurance. Writing in the wake of Israel
’s devastating territorial expansion in 1967\, Kanafani elaborates his t
heory of resistance literature and offers a visceral account of life under
occupation.\n\nTranslated for the first time into English by one of the g
reatest living translators from Arabic to English\, Tarif Khalidi\, Kanafa
ni’s essay offers one of the sharpest social and political analyses of l
ife in Palestine in this early period of occupation. In the two decades fo
llowing the Nakba\, Palestinian writers undertook the grueling task of adv
ancing a cultural struggle to protect their language\, culture\, and herit
age.\n\nJoin us for a conversation about this newly translated text and it
s relevance to the continued struggle for Palestinian liberation. This even
 t is co-hosted by the Institute for Palestine Studies and St. Paul &amp\;
 St. Andrew United Methodist Church.\n\n\n\nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/la
