About this event
Izdihar Kassis is a passionate artist who was born in Syria and has seen desperate refugees flee into Lebanon to tent encampments near her home. Wanting to do something to help, she began by selling her paintings to raise money to start Together For the Family. Utilizing shipping containers for buildings, two sites near tent encampments were established that have since been relocated to one larger site. TFF hired a doctor and a dentist, teachers for informal children’s education, a master craftsman to teach woodworking to young men, tailoring experts to teach sewing to women, a beautician to teach cosmetology and entrepreneurial and computer training. When Izdihar began TFF, Lebanon was in a much better place economically but in the last ten years politics and an economic crisis has added to the challenges but they continue to serve the needs of hundreds of refugee children and women. On Oct. 1, a celebratory dedication was held for the new site called Oasis Family Center.
I have stayed in Izdihar and Riad’s home and I can tell you she is an amazing cook! I can’t wait for you to hear her story and taste the delicious meal she will be preparing for us!– Lorelei
