About the speakers
Dalya Al Masri is a Palestinian human rights researcher and analyst whose work focuses on the media, dispossession, and colonization in Palestine. She has written about Canadian and American policies on Palestine and their implications in the West and under Israeli occupation. Dalya is also an organizer for the Palestinian Youth Movement in Vancouver.
Sid Shniad has been active in anti-war, labour, and anti-racist movements his entire life. He spent most of his working life as the research director of the BC-based Telecommunications Workers Union, where he played an active role in promoting pay equity and women’s rights and worked to combat the deregulation of Canada’s telecommunications industry. In 1980, he became a founding member of the BC Organization to Fight Racism, which was established to combat the KKK when it threatened to sink roots in the province. In the run-up to the launch of the war in Iraq in 2003, he helped establish StopWar.ca, the BC-based anti-war coalition. Sid has been an active member of Independent Jewish Voices Canada, a Palestine solidarity organization, since he helped found it in 2008.
This event was organized in collaboration with RISE SFU, SFU Students for Justice in Palestine, and the SFSS, and is endorsed by the Palestinian Youth Movement in Vancouver, and Indepedent Jewish Voices Vancouver.
