DESCRIPTION:\nThe Maine Middle Eastern Orchestra presents a special program
 \, "The Music of the Sufis\," that explores the musical traditions of Sufi
 sm.\n\n\n\n\nThe Maine Middle Eastern Orchestra is honored to present a sp
 ecial program exploring the musical traditions of Sufism. Our performance 
 will feature a selection of Egyptian sacred dance music\, devotional Sufi 
 hymns\, and mystical folk melodies from Turkey. This is a unique opportuni
 ty to witness the power of this transcendental music\, arranged and perfor
 med in an orchestral setting. We welcome you to join us for an unforgettab
 le evening at Meetinghouse Arts.\n\nMaine Middle Eastern Orchestra was fou
 nded in 2018 by Eric LaPerna with the goal of preserving and performing Ar
 abic\, Turkish and Armenian music from the art\, classical\, folk and Sufi
  traditions. This music was passed on to Eric and other members of the orc
 hestra by master musicians\, Alan Shavarsh Bardezbanian\, Bassam Saba and 
 Michel Merhej Baklouk.\n\nThe MMEO is made up of music faculty members fro
 m Berklee\, Bowdoin\, Bates and Colby Colleges\, as well as musicians from
  the world renowned National Arab Orchestra\, New York Arabic Orchestra\, 
 DaPonte String Quartet\, Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble\, Seyir Duo and th
 e Casco Bay Tummlers.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, January 10\, 2026 @ 7:00 PM.
  Doors open at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $25 in advance\, $30 at the door. Stud
