“Solidarity with people peacefully demanding their human rights – Defiance against those trying to stop them”

After 10 years of conflict in Syria and surrounding regions, which has seen the most profound abuse of human rights, it is easy to think the issue is too complex and that there is little we as individuals or as a human rights organisation can do to affect change. The narrative of despair is increasingly compelling.

Our meeting focusses on the ongoing conflict, with a call to ensure credible accountability and increased humanitarian access to the region. Most of all, we wish to bring hope that our actions can lead to tangible change to the besieged people of Syria.

Speakers

Manchester Amnesty Group and Rethink Rebuild Society are collaborating to highlight the ongoing conflict in Syria, with particular emphasis on the impact to the civilian population. Our guest speakers are Kristyan Benedict from Amnesty International, who will provide an update of Amnesty’s work in the region and Dr Haytham Alhamwi from Rethink Rebuild Society, (a Manchester-based charity that works towards improving the lives of refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrants), will provide updates on the situation in Syria and how we can support their work.
