SPOKEANE, WASHINGTON

WHO: Manal is the Resident Artist at Workhouse Arts Center in Virginia. She’s shown all over the world, including London, New York, Cairo, Paris, Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, Ramallah, Brighton, Delhi, Rome, etc.

MORE: Manal has been interviewed by many US and international journals, magazines & TV channels. Art critic Mark Jensen in the Washington Post: Manal Deeb “superimposes photographs, calligraphy and fabric patterns on her face, constructing a visual metaphor for how women’s identities are overlaid with societal expectations and political circumstances,” blending realism and abstraction. This will be her debut in the Pacific Northwest. Come meet Manal!

WHAT ELSE: We’ll also show work from Legendary Painter Alfredo Arreguin (who has work in The Smithsonian), art professors Gordon Wilson, Rob Fifield, and Rob McKirdie, Bend painter/art teacher Ken Roth, Michael Dinning, Karen Mobley, Jim Dhillon, Oregon artist Shelli Walters, local legend Ric Gendron, and beloved local artist Melissa Cole.

WHEN:First Friday, December 6th, 5-8pm.

WHERE: First Friday in Kendall Yards happens throughout the Kendall Yards Business District, but has always been centered at Marmot Art Space (1202 Summit Pkwy, in Adams Alley, right across the alley from Craftsman Cellars and 3Ninjas).

WHY ATTEND:It’s another amazing art party in Kendall Yards! This is the best night of each month, a great opportunity to get out of the house and visit with your neighbors in Spokane’s most exciting neighborhood. Come for the art, stay for the food and drink! Or vice versa. You choose – either way you’ll have a great time!

WHY ELSE: 3Ninjas opened recently  – and they’re right across the alley from us! You loved them for years as a food truck at our Kendall Yards Night Market. Now you can see them all four seasons! Don’t forget that Umi Kitchen & Sushi Bar opened awhile back – to rave reviews. Tonight’s a great night to try it out. Maryhill Winery is one of our newer neighbors– 5,000 sq. ft. of wine, along with a beautiful view of the Spokane River Gorge. Great excuse to visit them. Never been to Boutique Bleu, our new women’s clothing boutique? Friday is a great day for that! Core Pilates and William Grant Gallery & Framing all host artists as well. Why not have a glass of wine at Craftsman Cellars while you check out their artist? Of course, Brainfreeze Ice Creamery, Central Food, Veraci Pizza, Wandering Table, Nectar Wine & Beer, will all be happy to see you, too!

MORE: Veraci Pizza, on the house!

MORE: Kids are always welcome!

FUTURE ARTISTS: Marmot Art Space hosts incredible local, regional, national, and international artists. We are not currently seeking artists, as the response has been enormous already and 2020-2027 is almost completely booked.

Are you a LOCAL artist interested in showing your artwork? We’ve got most of the next several years already booked, but opportunities sometimes come up for the right person – that right person is ALL of the following: 1) insanely talented, 2) has been working for a decade or two (or seven) or more 60-90 hours/week building his or her audience, 3) has shown dozens of times in informal and formal settings, 4) has learned a ton from each of those shows and 5) sold a lot of work.

If that sounds like you, then please read thru the following articles and contact us when you’re finished. Even if the above doesn’t sound like you, an intelligent artist would read through theses articles to learn about fine art galleries. There’s some amazing info in these articles that could really help your art career. If you read these articles carefully then you’ll understand how to reach out to a fine art gallery without shooting yourself in the foot first. It’s not fun to see people constantly shooting themselves in the foot because they haven’t carefully prepared themselves to make an amazing first impression. Do yourself a favor and come prepared. Be a pro. Thank you.

These articles are absolutely packed with essential info that nobody has ever told you : Absolutely Essential Artist Tips. We suggest you read this article very, very carefully: What Galleries Look For In Artists then follow it’s many suggestions. And don’t miss this one: Common Misconceptions About Galleries. All three of these articles were written by a highly successful arts advisor in California with decades upon decades of experience in the art world.

Are you from OUTSIDE SPOKANE and looking to exhibit at Marmot? Are you currently selling a ton of work, but just looking to expand where your work is sold? Do you often appear in your local media because you’re clearly the cream of the crop in your city? Have you been working 60-90 hour workweeks building your career and audience for a couple decades? Do you have a huge following on social media because everyone loves you and respects your accomplishments? If all of the above is true then thank you so much for working so hard for so long that you stand out from all your peers. Please leave a message on our cellphone stating the above and we’ll get back you ASAP. And don’t forget to give us your full name which we’ll use to Google you and all your info will be right there. Thank you.

Local artists – we love you! If at some point you want to email us, please search around for the way to email us. If you’ve read the aforementioned articles, this will make total sense; if it doesn’t, check out the articles again. We didn’t write them, but they are amazing articles.

While you patiently wait your turn to exhibit at Marmot, have you ever considered supporting the gallery? If we had support from artists then we could expand from 360 square feet to 1,000 or even 10,000. Wouldn’t that be awesome! Also your support would mean that when it’s your turn the gallery is still open to feature you.

Does that make sense? It’s difficult to highlight you and all that you do when the doors are shuttered. “Liking” & “sharing” our posts are cheap and easy ways to support. Obviously you want to attend all the First Fridays and bring your friends.

The most valuable ways require much more effort on your part: have you ever purchased a piece of fine art? Few people do.

You really stand out from the crowd when you actually lay down your hard earned cash to support this business that helps the arts community.

We’ve been working for over five years to turn Kendall Yards into an arts destination. Marmot will always be at the center and, as the only space in Kendall Yards dedicated completely to the visual arts, we’ll always focus on the biggest artists around, but we’re excited to continue to promote all the great things happening on First Fridays in Kendall Yards.
