What you all have been waiting for is here! All are welcome to a two -day special intensive workshop on MOROCCAN CHAABI taught by yours truly, Esraa Warda!
For all those who are new to chaabi maghribi, Chaabi means “of the people” and this dance is exactly that, a dance for the people. Naturally, with the common characteristics of North African culture, Moroccan chaabi is body positive (the bigger the better!), women-centered, and communal. Chaabi is about isolated shimmies, control, and HIGH ENERGY ENDURANCE! You will learn how to isolate your hips and bottom to shake into a continuous vibration through a musical climax.
Because this is a 2 part workshop, it is meant to be intensive and to really hone in on RHYTHM AND TECHNIQUE. If you are a beginner, this is good for getting into the basics. If you have some experience, it is even better to really work on your body isolations and aesthetic.
Chaabi may seem simple but it requires time and effort to master looking “natural”. Let’s get in it!
Please bring a scarf to wrap around your waist, water, a loose dress/gandoura to change in, and prepared to take your shoes off!
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to message Esraa Warda.
Please read carefully: The location is at Teatro Sea or Teatro Latea (has both names on google but is the same place) Room 203. You must walk up to the 3rd Floor and walk to the end of the hall (right side) and walk down ONE flight to the 2nd floor to get to Room 203.
Please come 5-10 minutes prior because of the extra walk.
